Corey S. Gerhart, C.C.M.

President, Co-Founder

A private club industry veteran with 30 years of key management experience, COMUS President Corey Gerhart has been involved in every aspect of management. This includes large golf tournament administration, alternate energy planning/implementation, membership marketing and retention planning. He earned a B.S. Degree from East Stroudsburg University in Hotel/Resort Management, and a Certified Club Manager professional certification.

Prior to co-founding COMUS Consulting, Corey served as the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray, Pennsylvania. He also has held key management positions at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware and at Fernwood Resorts.

During his career, he has supervised numerous large-scale clubhouse and facility renovations ranging from $3 million to $11 million, He also completed a $2.5 million restoration of a Donald Ross-designed course at the Barton Hills Country Club, and contributed to Project of the Year honors from the Detroit Engineering Society for the Club’s geo-thermal energy and LED lighting project. His leadership at Barton Hills helped earn the facility Boardroom magazine’s Distinguished Gold Club of The World honors in 2016.



Todd Mathews

Vice President, Co-Founder

Offering nearly 30 years of professional design experience, Todd serves as the Vice President and Head Designer of all projects undertaken by COMUS. His talent and commitment have landed him as head of many large-scale jobs. Among them, he has orchestrated the redesign of 400-room hotels, restaurants, and private clubs throughout the country. Todd is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s participation in these projects.

He has a firm belief that a well-designed interior space is critical to the success of any venture. Todd has a unique ability to view each new project as a whole, and can understand how interior space needs to be arranged to function the best. He has designed countless spaces that are not only exquisite in appearance, but efficient as a part of a whole.

Todd’s work has been featured in many of the industry’s leading publications. His work has appeared in national television commercials, and he was once selected as a featured designer for a kitchen renovation on The Food Network. Although based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Todd’s work has found its way to Florida, Illinois, Ohio, Maine, and South Carolina.



Dan Sonntag

Registered Architect, NCARB

With over 25 years of professional architectural, planning and construction experience, Dan is responsible for the architectural aspects of all projects undertaken by COMUS. Dan brings broad-ranging experience in both architecture and construction for hospitality, commercial and residential design.

Much of Dan’s career has been spent as the staff architect for a development company, providing project management and oversight of dozens of varied design and engineering firms, consultants and contractors. From the design process through construction to the punch list and inspections, he has been integrally involved with hundreds of projects from every angle.

Dan has been a registered Architect in the state of Michigan since 1996. is currently licensed in the state of Florida, and holds the NCARB certification allowing quick approval for licensure in additional states. Dan works closely with all members of the COMUS team to ensure that our designs are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional, structurally sound and aligned with the vision of the client.



Charles Cook

Registered Architect

Charles S. Cook is the Principal of COOK ARCHITECTURAL Design Studio. With more than twenty five (25) years’ experience as a licensed architect his work includes many complex projects and buildings encompassing offices, educational, and recreational as well as luxurious residential estates.

Notable projects include iFit Fitness Center, Chicago Woman’s Athletic Club and Bodo Performing Arts Center Competition which was a recipient of a Chicago Chapter AIA award. These projects demonstrate sensitivity to critical issues such as departmental relationships, public perception of facilities and organizational efficiencies with dynamic work environments utilizing Green Building materials and techniques.

COOK ARCHITECTURAL Design Studio (CA/ds) is client focused and design driven. Their approach to great design comes from listening carefully, distilling the essence of each clients’ desires, and manifesting that goal into inspired solutions.

CA/ds and its team of talented professionals provide a primary focus on design and service, supported with an acute attention to detail. Services provided include Master Planning, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents and Construction Observation phases for projects ranging from complex mixed-use commercial structures to single family residential.

The firm has LEED Accredited Professionals embracing Green Technology and energy conserving and sustainable solutions. CA/ds work has received more than eighteen national design awards, twenty local design awards, and twenty-five awards for preservation and restoration projects.



Linda Mahlmeister

Senior Designer

Linda has managed new construction and major renovation projects for nearly 20 years. She has an extensive background in management and is highly efficient, making her indispensable to the team and the satisfaction of our clients. She can take a project from its initial design stages all the way through order fulfillment, delivery, and installation with ease – organizing everyone’s time and bringing all the participants together until a project is successfully completed.

In addition to her extensive project management skills, Linda also excels at connecting with clients. She has a way of getting to know each one so that COMUS can provide them with the best design solution possible. Linda places a high value on customer satisfaction, and works tirelessly for her clients.

Linda’s responsibilities at COMUS include estimating and budgeting and specification writing as well as furniture and finish selections. She is also responsible for accessorizing, job site monitoring, and project management. Although based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Linda has worked on and managed design projects nationally.



Anthony Garbarino

Project Manager

Anthony Garbarino has nearly a decade of professional experience working closely with architects, clients, and construction professionals in both commercial and residential projects. Anthony has been responsible for assisting with design development and construction documentation for numerous projects at COMUS.

Anthony has spent a significant portion of his career as a project manager for a commercial design firm, working directly with the architect on record and undertaking all drafting and project management of its commercial projects, ranging from small tenant builds (business/medical and mercantile) to large scale commercial development. During that time he was involved in the design and development of several large-scale multi-story commercial buildings that have been built throughout the country, including Michigan, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. With that experience he has a wide range of knowledge and expertise of different aspects of design and construction, from schematic design development to construction observation.

Anthony earned his Bachelors and Masters in Architecture at Lawrence Technological University and is currently pursuing licensure as an architect in the state of Michigan.
